Solidarity for Pastrengo!
Monday, 16 August 2010

EUROMIL was informed that disciplinary proceedings pursuant to Articles 65 and 66 of the military discipline regulations were initiated against Vincenzo Bonaccorso, Chairman of Pastrengo (Associazione Carabinieri in Servizio Pastrengo).

Vincenzo Bonaccorso has been charged with infringement of Article 8 and 12(2) of the military discipline regulations (law 382/11.7.1978) as result of

  • participating in two conferences in Brussels (November 2009) and Berlin (March 2010) organised by EUROMIL as well as
  • representing Pastrengo at a conference organised by the association and the Security and Defence Workers’ Party (PSD) in Palermo (May 2010).

EUROMIL strongly regrets, disapproves and condemns the proceedings against the chairman of Pastrengo. Therefore, EUROMIL has prepared a statement in support of Pastrengo and Vincenzo Bonaccorso, expressing its full support, solidarity and sympathy with Pastrengo and Vincenzo Bonaccorso.

EUROMIL expresses its full support, solidarity and sympathy with Pastrengo and Vincenzo Bonaccorso. In this context, as an act of solidarity, we encourage our members and supporters to sign a petition, EUROMIL has created on this website (to sign, please click here).

We hope with your support, joining our concerted effort, to put enough pressure on the military authorities and the Italian government to stop all disciplinary or judicial proceedings against members of military associations in Italy and grant soldiers the rights any other citizen enjoys.

EUROMIL attends ETUC's European Day of Action
Friday, 13 August 2010

The European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC) is staging a European Day of Action on 29 September 2010.
The European trade unions will be demonstrating against the austerity measures adopted recently by many European governments, and to demand recovery plans in favour of quality jobs and growth.

ETUC Day of Action

The armed forces are composed of human beings, who have chosen to serve their country as citizens in uniform. Austerity measures and the economic crisis affect the social security and employment of military personnel in the same way as any other worker. The fact that these men and women happen to be wearing a uniform does not negate their rights as citizens of that country.

To show solidarity with other European workers and the ETUC, EUROMIL together with representatives from member associations such as the ACMP/CGMP (BE) and AFMP/FNV (NL), will attend the demonstration. With this action EUROMIL wants to emphasise that soldiers are indeed highly skilled workers - citizens in uniform - with the legitimate right to collectively represent and promote their social rights,

The Euro-demonstration will take place on 29 September 2010 in Brussels. It will start at 1 pm at the Gare du Midi and will conclude at the Esplanades du Cinquantenaire.
